Andrew Rotherham

Co-Founder & Senior Partner, Bellwether

Andrew J. Rotherham is a Co-Founder and Senior Partner at Bellwether, a national nonprofit organization focused on helping education systems better serve students and communities. He is known for his work at the intersection of education policy, research, media, and practice, with a career grounded in student-centered problem solving and bipartisan collaboration.

Prior to founding Bellwether, Rotherham served as Special Assistant to the President for Domestic Policy during the Clinton administration and was appointed by governors from both political parties to serve on the Virginia Board of Education. He has also founded or co-founded several education organizations and continues to advise nonprofits and policy leaders across the country.

A longtime voice in national education conversations, Rotherham writes the Eduwonk blog and newsletter and has authored or edited four books on education policy. His media experience includes serving as a national education columnist for TIME and contributing editor at U.S. News & World Report.

He lives in Virginia with his wife, a public high school English teacher.
